This tour will take you to discover Florence, considered by many to be an open-air museum. If you are interested in architecture, for example, you don’t need to visit any museum: many of the palaces and squares are masterpieces of their own. Florence, cradle of the Renaissance, is one of the most beautiful city in the world, one of the Unesco heritage sites and the capital of Tuscany and has been called “the Athens of the Middle Ages”. Situated on both banks of the Arno river and surrounded by the Appenine hills, the city is the home of Dante and theMedici Family, where the Renaissance art of the 16th century started, the birthplace of great artists like Michelangelo, Brunelleschi and Botticelli. Florence’s museums, palaces, and churches house some of the greatest artistic treasures in the world. The Historic Centre of Florence attracts millions of tourists each year and it is an important city in Italian fashion, being ranked in the top 50 fashion capitals of the world. You will visit the most important places like Piazza della Signoria, wich was the center of the political life since the 14th century. The sculptures in Piazza della Signoria have political connotations, for example the famous David (the original is in the Galleria dell’Accademia) by Michelangelo was placed outside the Palazzo Vecchio as a symbol of the Republic’s defiance of the tyrannical Medici. You will visit the Duomo, Pitti Palace and the Accademia Gallery with the original David of Michelangelo or the Uffizi Gallery, one of the world’s top art museums. In Florence you must of course pay a visit to the Ponte Vecchio, looking at the glittering jewelry shops along the bridge or simply admiring the view.
